The Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza
The big thing that most fishers focus on after hitting the top level in their profession is the super hard to win, but extremely rewarding Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. Here, you will find that you can win all sorts of fun fishing related items and an incredibly hard to get achievement by being the one and only winner on your realm each week.
Nothing is required to take part in the tournament. You just need to show up in Stranglethorn Vale at 2pm Server Time on Sunday of each week and be the fastest to catch 40 Speckled Tastyfish, which will replace all other schools in the waters of this zone. The rules are as follows:
• Pools only spawn for a few minutes at a time
• All fishing pools change at the same time and anyone of any skill level above 225 can catch them.
• You should be level 40 or higher to stay alive in this zone – level 80 if you are on a PvP server.
• When done, run back to Riggle Bassbait in Booty Bay to turn the quest in and get your reward (if you win).
• Once the winner is in, no one else can get any credit for this quest.
How to Win the Tournament
It’s a tough go to win this tournament, but there are a few tips you can use to pull it off. Remember that some people out there may have been trying for months to pull this off, so if you don’t do it the first time, don’t fret.
• Set your hearth for Booty Bay to save time in getting back to the NPC
• Get the Journal needed to have Find Fish along with Fishing Buddy installed.
• Map out the pools ahead of time to know where you’re going between spawns.
• Bind all your keys to save time casting
• Turn on Auto Loot to save time when you grab the fish
• Have someone come with you to scout and help fend off PvPers
• Use Run on Water if you are a Death Knight and your mount speed boost if you are a Paladin or Death Knight
• Don’t look at the rewards when you win, just turn the quest in – know ahead of time what will be offered. Someone else could be turning it in while you’re thinking.
The Reward
If you win the fishing tournament, you will receive the ultra hard to get “Accomplished Angler Achievement” as well as the Arcanite Fishing Pole or the Hook of the Master Angler. The pole is the best as it adds an additional +40 to your casting. But, if you don’t need or want it, you can get the hook and turn yourself into a fish.
